The Upper Susquehanna Coalition (USC) Trees for Tributaries Program provides free plants, materials, and technical support to aid in reforesting the Upper Susquehanna Watershed. This program is only eligible for the upper portion of Susquehanna County (please see the map to the left). The goal of this program is to create and plant riparian or streamside buffers along our waterways that help decrease erosion, reduce flooding damage, improve wildlife and stream habitat, and protect our water quality.
Plants are offered to organizations/individuals for riparian buffer projects in the proposed location only. Recipients must provide the Trees for Tribs Program with site information on where plants are used. A fully completed application and order request form must be completed (failure to provide this information will result in the recipient being invoiced for plants).
Recipients will coordinate with the Trees for Tribs Coordinator to return containers, tree tubes, and stakes. The Trees for Tribs Coordinator will be granted access to the project site to periodically inspect and monitor plants and materials. Recipients are responsible for the maintenance of the plants and materials.
  • Landowner and/or Applicant shall not cut, remove, mow, or otherwise disturb vegetation, including but not limited to trees and shrubs, planted or naturally growing, in the project area.
  • During times of drought, the landowner/applicant shall water newly planted trees and shrubs as needed.
  • Tree shelters shall be properly installed, maintained, and monitored at least twice annually.
  • Tubes shall be removed at an appropriate time (after 3-5 years).
If you are interested in Trees for Tributaries, contact SCCD Watershed Specialist Jillian Pagnotti to schedule a site visit: [email protected], 570-782-2105, or apply by clicking below.

Support Environmental Education in Our Community
Your donation makes a lasting impact! By supporting environmental education, you help fund vital programs like Envirothon, Eco-Explorer Day Camp, Community Outreach Events, and hands-on experiences for Scouting and Homeschooling groups. These programs help inspire the next generation to care for our natural world, build leadership skills, and foster a deeper connection to the environment. Every contribution helps us reach more students, families, and landowners across Susquehanna County, cultivating each, to become better stewards of our planet.
