Contractor Workshop registration is due.

Contractor Workshop    The Susquehanna County Conservation District will be holding a Heavy Equipment Contractor Workshop on March 17th, 2010 at the Montrose Bible Conference’s Dreyer Hall in Montrose.  The workshop begins with breakfast and registration at 7:30 a.m. and concludes at noon with door prizes.  This year’s speakers include John Chibirka, Soil Scientist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Tim Ziegler with the Center for Dirt & Gravel Road Studies at Penn State University.  John Chibirka will give an overview of Susquehanna County soils and BMPs that will assist contractors working with these unique soils.  He will also give a demonstration on the Web Soil Survey.  Tim Ziegler will provide information on building and maintaining dirt & gravel roads intended for heavy hauling use.  This should be very valuable material for townships, contractors for the gas industry, and forestry operators.  A brief presentation on common wetland plants in Susquehanna County will be shown.  The District hopes all heavy equipment contractors will be able to attend this informative workshop.  Registration is due by March 3, 2010.  For more information please contact the District at 278-4600 ext. 281.

Environthon Competition

The Susquehanna County Conservation District holds a Board of Directors meeting monthly.  The Board meeting is scheduled for the third Thursday of each month at 8:30 a.m. in the County Office Building downstairs conference room.  The Board of Directors also holds a Planning and Work Session on the first Thursday of each month at 8:30 a.m. in the same location.
